Woohoo!... You've got that one right, no doubt about it. And I do agree, bw was an absolute must in this case, it gives the right atmosphere. The trumpet in the background is quite something. Having him blurred is absolutely correct.
This shot was taken with a 50mm f1.8 lens wide open because of the almost non-existent light. I shot this on digital btw, a Nikon D90 at 1600 iso. I think it handled it quite well.
Looks like he's 'going for it'. Nice shot; available light rather than flash by the look of it?
