I've discovered something today I am really proud of :) Although my idea most likely will not bring me the Nobel, it might be useful for those of you who are building dishes and consider using a CD as a reflector (regardless how you mount it inside the dish). So, to keep it short: the reflecting, convex mirror is already in your house, more exactly inside your refrigerator. So, please take one tin-can of beer or coke, drink it and look at the nicely curved bottom. Use a Dremel tool and cut the bottom. The rest is self explanatory. Stick it on the mirror side of a CD and there is your wonderful reflector for the beauty dish (tested by me). Photos soon. I was too lazy today. Have fun diy-ing ;)Gabriel (fortunately, genuine Romanian)https://www.blogger.com/profile/10028737174660722708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7958871883833531853.post-4171829596145347202012-04-18T09:35:39.405+02:002012-04-18T09:35:39.405+02:00You have a long memory!! ;-)

One of the casualties along the way was my DIY Beauty Dish, I had to give it away simply because I couldn't fit it into my suitcase. On the up side, I am now in need of another one, so I will post the results as soon as I have the time to do one. Be patient, moving to a new country has the effect of delaying and hindering everything you thought you were going to do.

My umbrellas did fit, so I actually hauled those all the way to Arlöv! Well, I couldn't get rid of everything... :-)

Thanks for the link!Lanthus Clarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13911404055670236867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7958871883833531853.post-60848726032450695512012-04-18T09:18:34.667+02:002012-04-18T09:18:34.667+02:00Hi! Two things:
a) Where's the bigger one you promised? ;)
b) New better & quite cheap umbrellas are now available on market: reflective but with diffusive material, looks like octabox, should be a good diffusor without loosing so much light: http://global.ebay.com/search/?UsePriceFilter=0&Query=reflective+umbrella+softbox&PageNumber=1&ListView=0&Region=0&SortBy=21Olesku.plhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17227576863342409914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7958871883833531853.post-63401151351164203462011-04-12T20:03:43.696+02:002011-04-12T20:03:43.696+02:00Hi Gastón, I never tried a "better bounce car...Hi Gastón, I never tried a "better bounce card" before, but I will make one asap and give it a go!

Just looking at one briefly on the web I can see that there will be quite a lot of "light spill" so maybe it won't direct quite as much light towards the subject as a beauty dish, but it should still be very effective in what it is designed to do, and that is disperse light. I will update my blog on my findings soon!Lanthus Clarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16642095623801366896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7958871883833531853.post-54639666203210437152011-04-12T19:27:17.267+02:002011-04-12T19:27:17.267+02:00Hi, i am Gastón from Argentina and no speak spanis...Hi, i am Gastón from Argentina and no speak spanish, but i try... Simple methods, inexpensive against expensive studios in a huge battle! I'm gonna bet on you... because you know about photography!

I've got another strange method for you:

1. Locate a window. Some houses are equipped with those useless contraptions.

2. Wait for daylight to appear.

3.Position your subject.

4. Shoot like mad.

You should get maybe one good picture out of this mess.
